Now that our kids are grown, when we have the whole family over, it’s a crowd. We all love Mexican food and these are our favorite dishes for the ultimate Mexican fiesta meal.

Table of Contents

Why You Should Host a Mexican Fiesta

  • Budget Friendly Party Menu – tacos, beans and rice are great options that are filling and delicious and won’t break the bank when feeding a crowd.
  • Easy and Delicious – This Mexican-inspired menu is a combination of homemade and store bought ingredients that tastes amazing and is easy to put together.
  • Perfect for Feed a Crowd – This menu is delicious for any occasion, any Taco Tuesday, game day gathering or Cinco de Mayo party. We also love it as an alternative to a traditional Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas dinner.

Tips for the Best Mexican Fiesta Menu

  • Delegate: It’s perfectly fine to have your guests pitch in and bring a dish, the chips and salsa, sour cream or ice and drinks.
  • Prep Ingredients: The toppings can be prepped a day in advance or the morning of the party. Homemade salsa, dry beans and rice can all be made a day or two in advance.
  • Make it Casual: Even if you it is a holiday occasion, serve the meal buffet style, taco bar or charcuterie boards and keep it casual. Paper plates and plastic cups make cleanup a breeze.
  • Homemade and Store Bought: Make your favorite Mexican dishes and add in store bought dishes like frozen tamales, tortillas and chips.

  • Steak Fajitas or Chicken Fajitas if you prefer them are marinated for a bold flavor. Cook them on the grill or in a cast iron skillet.
  • Ground Beef Tacos and Chicken Tacos are always popular. Serve them with street taco shells, cornmeal tortillas or crispy corn taco shells.
  • We like to add frozen tamales to our taco buffet and they are so easy to steam on the stove top or the grill. Bean Tostadas are also a great addition.

  • Black Beans, pinto beans or refried beans are hearty and delicious, pairing perfectly with tacos, enchiladas and fajitas.
  • Spanish Rice is a classic to serve with your favorite Mexican entrees. Our version is so simple to make and can also be made ahead and reheated just before serving.

  • Pico de Gallo is our favorite fresh salsa and makes both a great appetizer to serve with chips and topping for everything. Homemade Salsa is also a great make ahead option.
  • Guacamole is a creamy and delicious addition to tacos, tamales and fajitas. Our recipe comes together really quick with just a few ingredients.
  • Velveeta Cheese Dip is the classic queso made with Velveeta cheese and RoTel tomatoes. Our version skips the meat and is great with chips. My kids love pouring it over tamales.
  • Candied Jalapenos are a great way to add spicy flavor.
  • Cheese: We like to serve our tacos and fajitas with cheddar and Monterey Jack.
  • Sour Cream or Mexican crema balances out the spicy flavors.
  • Green Onions and Cilantro make great garnishes adding fresh flavors that compliment everything on the menu.
